The effectiveness of self-esteem training on marital satisfaction and psychological well-being

Background and Objective: Feeling of worth, as one of the important psychological constructs, can play a decisive role in the quality of couples' relationships and their mental health. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of feeling of worth training on marital satisfaction and psychological well-being of couples.
Method: This study was applied in terms of purpose, quantitative in terms of data collection method, and quasi-experimental in terms of methodology with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population included all couples referring to marital counseling centers in District 10 of Tehran. The sample size was 30 people (15 people in the experimental group and 15 people in the control group) selected based on the convenience sampling method and then randomly assigned to two groups. The research instruments included the Enrich Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Riff Psychological Well-Being Questionnaire. The data were analyzed using the multivariate analysis of covariance test.
Findings: The results showed that valuing training had a significant effect on marital satisfaction, this effect was observed in the components of attraction (0.17), understanding (0.16), attitude (0.14), and investment (0.18). Also, valuing training had a significant effect on psychological well-being (p<0.001).
Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, valuing training can be used as an effective intervention to increase marital satisfaction and improve the psychological well-being of couples in counseling and psychotherapy centers.
